01The short version

Your photos are edited on your phone and are never uploaded to us. There is no account, no sign-up and no profile. We do not receive your name, email address, phone number or the contents of your gallery.

The app does use the internet for three things: showing ads, sending a crash report when the app fails, and downloading optional add-on content such as the on-device subject-segmentation model and full-size reference art. Those are described in detail below.

The rest of this page is the long version. Please read it before using the app — by using PhotoMaker, you agree to it.

02Who we are

PhotoMaker (the "App") is published by Retroline ("we", "us", "our") and distributed on Google Play under the package name retroline.photo.maker. We are the data controller for the limited data described here. You can reach us any time at retroline.apps@gmail.com.

03Your photos

Every filter, adjustment, mask, blur, curve, liquify stroke, background swap and AI style in PhotoMaker is computed on your device. There is no server to send a photo to, so there is no copy of your photo on one.

  • Photos are chosen through the Android system photo picker, so the App only ever sees the images you hand it — not your whole gallery.
  • Working files created while you edit stay in the App's own private storage on the device and are cleared when you finish or when Android reclaims the space.
  • Exports are written to Pictures/PhotoMaker on your device. We never see them, and they are never watermarked.
  • Sharing an export sends it through Android's share sheet to the app you pick. What happens after that is governed by that app's own privacy policy, not ours.

04What we collect

We do not ask you for, and we do not collect, personal information such as your name, email address, postal address, phone number, date of birth or precise location. There is no account system, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing for us to store about you.

The only data that leaves your device is what our third-party providers collect for ads and crash reporting, described in Advertising and Crash reports below. We do not sell data, and we do not have a database of users.

05Permissions the app asks for

Android shows you each permission the App can request. Here is every one of them and exactly why it exists.

Photos and media
Reading the images you select for editing, and saving your exports back to Pictures/PhotoMaker. On Android 13 and newer this is limited to the images you pick.
Internet & network state
Loading ads, sending crash reports, and downloading optional add-on content such as the subject-segmentation model and full-size reference art.
Wi-Fi state
Used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK to adapt ad requests to your connection.
Wake lock
Keeps a long render or model download from being interrupted when the screen dims.

The App does not request camera, microphone, contacts, location or call-log access.

06When the app uses the internet

PhotoMaker works offline for editing. It reaches the network only in these cases:

  • Ads. Ad slots request and display ads.
  • Crash reports. A diagnostic report is uploaded after the App fails.
  • On-device AI model. Google Play services downloads the ML Kit subject-segmentation model shortly after install so subject and background masking works without a first-use delay. The model then runs locally — your photo is not sent anywhere to be segmented.
  • Optional content. Full-size reference art for a style or sticker downloads only when you tap that item; the browsable icons ship inside the App.

None of these transfers include your photos, your edits or your exports.

07Advertising

PhotoMaker is free and is supported by ads served through Google AdMob. We do not run our own ad targeting and we do not give any advertiser your photos or your activity inside the editor.

To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect information such as your Android advertising ID, device model and operating system version, coarse location derived from your IP address, and which ads you saw or tapped. That collection is governed by Google's privacy policy.

Turning off personalised ads

On your device, open Settings → Google → Ads and choose Delete advertising ID or Opt out of Ads Personalisation. You will still see ads, but they will not be personalised. Where required by law, the App also asks for your consent before serving personalised ads, and you can change that choice later.

08Crash reports

When the App crashes, a report is sent through Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix the fault. A report contains only diagnostic information:

  • Device model, manufacturer and Android version
  • App version and build number
  • A stack trace of the code that failed
  • State at the moment of the crash, such as free memory and orientation
  • A random installation identifier that lets us group repeat crashes

A crash report never contains your photos, your exports, your name, your email address or your gallery contents. Reports are used only to diagnose and fix problems, and can be deleted on request — email us with your device model and the approximate date.

09Third-party services

These are the only third parties the App communicates with, and what each one is for.

Google AdMob
Serving and measuring ads. Privacy policy
Firebase Crashlytics
Crash and stability reporting. Privacy and security in Firebase
Google Play services / ML Kit
Delivering the on-device subject-segmentation model used for masking.
Google Play
Distributing and updating the App. Your install is a transaction between you and Google; we receive only aggregate, anonymous statistics.

10Data retention

We hold no personal information about you, so there is nothing for us to retain. Crash reports are kept by Crashlytics under Google's standard retention schedule and are removed once the underlying fault is resolved. Advertising data is retained by Google under its own policy. To request that anything held about you is erased, see Deleting your data.

11Deleting your data

There is no account to delete. PhotoMaker has no sign-up, no sign-in and no profile, and we hold no personal information about you, so there is no stored record of yours for us to erase. Your photos are never uploaded to us — see Your photos.

  • Photos and edits on your device. Uninstalling the App removes its local data, including caches, cutouts and saved templates. Exports already written to Pictures/PhotoMaker stay where they are — they are your files, and you can delete them from your gallery at any time.
  • Advertising identifier. Reset or delete it, or opt out of ad personalisation, in Settings → Google → Ads on your device. Where a consent form applies to your region, you can also reopen it from Settings → Ad privacy options inside the App.
  • Crash reports. These carry no personal information and are removed under Google's standard Crashlytics retention schedule. To have a report removed sooner, email us.

To make a deletion request, email retroline.apps@gmail.com with the subject line Data deletion request, and include your device model and App version so we can identify any diagnostic records. We respond within 30 days. Because we hold no account data, most requests will simply confirm that we hold nothing about you.

12Your choices and rights

  • Ads. Reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalisation, in your Android settings.
  • Photos. Revoke the App's access to photos at any time in Settings → Apps → PhotoMaker → Permissions.
  • Everything else. Uninstalling the App removes its local data from your device. Your exports in Pictures/PhotoMaker stay where they are — they are your files.
  • Requests. If you are in a region with data-protection rights such as the GDPR or CCPA, write to us and we will act on any request we can identify. Because we hold no account data, most requests will simply confirm that we hold nothing about you.

13Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

14Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App changes. The revised version is posted on this page with a new effective date, and material changes will also be noted in the Google Play release notes. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.

15Contact us

Questions, corrections or deletion requests about this policy go to retroline.apps@gmail.com. Please include your device model and App version so we can find the right records.
